Gambling Awareness Trust is Ireland’s leading independent charity funding research, education and treatment services to help minimise gambling-related harm. Our latest published statistics demonstrate a surge in individuals and families seeking and guidance due to the impact of harmful gambling. This disturbing trend underscores the urgent need for increased awareness, education, and resources to combat the detrimental effects of harmful gambling on individuals and their families.

Between 2020 and 2022, 
  • 8,769 Calls received on the National Helpline (1 800 936 725). 
  • 10,077 Counselling sessions have been funded – 42% of these were in 2022
  • 1,963 individuals and families received counselling
  • 14,505 s visited the gamblingcare-ie.casinowinning.net website between September ‘22 (when reporting was established) and December of that year. Of these, 268 self-referred to services.
Gambling Awareness Trust was established in 2019 to fund gambling addiction counselling, prevention, education, research and awareness services in Ireland. We offer to individuals experiencing harmful gambling, and also to their families, referred to in our report as Affected Others.
The frontline services and educational programmes funded by Gambling Awareness Trust include a National Helpline which is open from 9am to 11pm every day of the year, counseling by phone, online and in person, residential treatment programmes, and continuing professional educational programmes for counsellors, therapists and mental health professionals.
To address the rising demand for services, Gambling Awareness Trust urges the public to become informed about the impact of harmful gambling, break the stigma surrounding this form of addiction, and seek help if they need it.
